Hey there.

A Resolute New Year

A Resolute New Year

I’m currently sitting in a rocking chair, one specifically selected due not only to its comfort but also the fact that it folds down to a nice flat portable state in which I can tote it from my back porch to a campsite.

Just so you know I’m using the mobile app to blog so I’m sure this’ll look weird.

I’m watching my daughter hop from rock to rock in her giant hiking boots, her sunshine hair wisping and dancing about in the light from the setting sun. My sons are in the pop up camper behind me and I hear [mostly] friendly banter. The husband is hunting with the grandad and we hope to start the year with a full freezer one again.

We’ve hiked today and I even took a long nap so you can imagine what a good day it’s been, even though for probably the first time in a very long time I burnt breakfast and had to start over. I blame it the cold.

Not everyone camps on the holidays but I highly recommend it. There is something so restful and pure about it; smacks that internal reset button of mine and I can think straight once again.

I can’t lie about it, this past year has been hard. It’s been trying and difficult but the struggles have led to beauty and change for the better and in ways I never imagined possible. Some of those struggles are personal and others I’ve freely shared but they’ve all led me right here, in a rocking chair at a campsite in Jacksboro eternally thankful to God for pushing me past my fears and being bigger, louder and stronger than all of those anxieties combined.

It is December 31, 2018 and as promised in the new year its a blog every Monday and a video every Saturday.

Today I mostly want to wish you a Happy New Year! As you sit and write resolutions I hope you know that you’re so wonderful exactly the way you are. Meet yourself where you’re at. Try to look past the healthy eating, the weight loss and the productivity goals and first be tender and take great care with the you you’re trying to “fix”. Run the races, eat the keto, shop at Whole Foods, do all the things but remember that God loves you so you should too.

Lastly, live. Set down your iPhone or tablet (more on that regarding a personal challenge I’ll be blogging about soon). Be present where you are, those moments you’re missing don’t ever come back.

Wishing you a fabulous, healthy and happy New Year,

Texas Deb
